The Tourism Commission launched the two-year Food Truck Pilot Scheme (the Scheme) on 3 February 2017 with an objective to add fun and vibrancy to Hong Kong's tourist attractions. The Scheme has been extended for two more years till 2 February 2021. After evaluating the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on food truck operations and the development of the Scheme so far, the Government has decided to extend the Scheme for another year up to 2 February 2022.
Food trucks are in operation in various designated tourist attractions and events. Since May 2017, the Government has rolled out a number of refinement and helping measures including introducing new operating venues; providing a more flexible rotation arrangement; allowing food trucks to participate in self-identified events; and offering the one-off subsidy to operators under the Food Licence Holders Subsidy Scheme of the Anti-epidemic Fund, etc.
The Tourism Commission has specially launched a mobile app, "HK Food Truck", to assist locals and tourists alike
to trace the whereabouts of the food trucks and learn more about them. The mobile app is available for free download
in Google Play and the Apple App Store.
