The Committee comprises a Chairman and 14 Members. The 12 unofficial members are drawn from the travel trade and different sectors in the community including professionals, finance, retail and the Consumer Council, etc. representing different views in the community. The two official members include the Commissioner for Tourism or the Assistant Commissioner for Tourism (1) and the Registrar of Travel Agents who is the ex officio member and secretary of the Committee.
The Advisory Committee on Travel Agents (ACTA) is a statutory body established under Section 7 of the Travel Agents Ordinance (Cap. 218)(TAO). Its terms of reference are -
to advise the Chief Executive on such matters relating to the administration of the TAO or the carrying on of the business of a travel agent as the Chief Executive may refer to the Committee;
to advise the Chief Executive on such matters as the Committee may consider to be in the interests of -
persons using the services of travel agents; and
to perform such other duties as are imposed or other powers as are conferred on it by the TAO or as may be prescribed or which it may lawfully exercise.
