The Commissioner for Tourism, Mr Philip Yung (left) receives a souvenir from the organiser of the Hong Kong Well-wishing Festival at the "Campfire Party in Liannan's Yao Minority Style" , on February 14. The Hong Kong Well-wishing Festival is supported by the Mega Events Fund, which was established in 2009 to assist local non-profit-making organisations host bigger and better arts, cultural and sports events, reinforcing Hong Kong's status as the events capital of Asia. Held in Lam Tsuen Wishing Square in Tai Po from February 11 to 17, the festival seeks to promote traditional Chinese culture in the festive context of the Lunar New Year, and includes a variety of activities reflecting traditional Chinese culture and rural customs. Festival events include the Campfire Party in Liannan's Yao Minority Style, International Wishing-placards-throwing Competition, Wishing Lanterns Lighting Ceremony and Local Food Carnival. The festival is expected to attract more than 26, 000 participants, including more than 5, 000 tourists.
