The Government has launched the Travel Agents and Practitioners Support Scheme under the Anti-epidemic Fund. In respect of travel agents and their staff, this scheme aims to:
Details of the Scheme and Application Form:
- provide travel agents with a one-off subsidy ranging from $20,000 to $200,000 (amount depending on the number of their staff members):
|Number of Staff Members on
31 March 2020
|Fewer than 5
|5 to fewer than 20
|20 to fewer than 50
|50 or above
- provide travel agents' staff each with a subsidy equivalent to $5,000 monthly for six months. Each subsidy will be disbursed in two tranches.
Subsidy disbursement arrangement: Under the Travel Agents and Practitioners Support Scheme, travel agents' staff/freelance accredited tourist guides and tour escorts who have already received the first payment of $15,000 will be disbursed the second payment of $15,000 in mid-August 2020. Other applicants will be disbursed the full subsidy of $30,000 in one go if their applications are approved.
Note: Under the original requirement of this Scheme, if an applicant is an "eligible travel agent" and has successfully applied/is applying for a subsidy under any other scheme in the second round of the Anti-epidemic Fund ("AEF") (except the Employment Support Scheme), it is not eligible for this Scheme. In view of the Distance Business Programme ("D-Biz Programme") launched in the second round of AEF to provide funding for enterprises to adopt IT solutions for developing distance business, and its nature different from that of the Travel Agents and Practitioners Support Scheme, the Government upon examination has decided to enhance the original requirement above. An "eligible travel agent" under the Travel Agents and Practitioners Support Scheme can also apply for a subsidy under the D-Biz Programme if it is eligible to apply under that programme.
