One
Peking is located near the waterfront in
Tsim Sha Tsui. Developed by Glorious Sun
Group, it overlooks the magnificent skyline
of Hong Kong and Victoria Harbour.
The
external envelop of the tower is a triple-glazed
walling system with aluminum sunshades as
light reflectors and motorized blinds installed
within the glazing cavity with the blade
angles automatically controlled by computerized
sensors tracking the position of the sun.
The
curvilinear south facade above the roof
profile of Hong Kong Cultural Centre across
the road gives the reflection of a rising
sail. The energy generated from the building's
integrated photo-voltaic panels is used
for the powering of motorized blinds in
the active facade which is totally self-sufficient.
The
distinctive profile of One Peking makes
it an instantly recognizable landmark, but
it is one that maintains dialogue with history,
with its neighbours and with the city's
natural attributes. With its innovative
design and cutting-edge building technology,
the building has won a number of awards
including Hong Kong Institute of Architects
Annual Awards 2003 and Quality Building
Award 2004.
