Central and Western
District is endowed with rich historical background and has long been
regarded as representative of the identity and image of Hong Kong - a
place where East-meets-West, and the old blends with the new. It is also
a place where the historical legacy and thriving local street life of
Hong Kong abound while at the same time state-of-the-art architecture
and fashionable culture are found. It is also the financial, administrative
and civic hub of Hong Kong with a full range of dining, shopping, leisure
and culture facilities.
A range of enhancements
in Central and Western District has been implemented as a pilot scheme
under the Tourism District Enhancement Programme. The project scope includes
street repaving, and provision of new street furniture, signage and greening
for Hollywood Road and Lan Kwai Fong. The Lok Hing Lane Sitting-out Area
is given a complete face-lift with a new access linking Pottinger Street
and Lan Kwai Fong to improve pedestrian flow. The Scheme also includes
directional signs at the Central-Mid-Level Escalator and the shopping
trail in Central. Works has been completed in 2005.
