Advisory Committee on Cruise Industry
The Government attaches equal importance to the software development for the cruise market in Hong Kong . We have established an Advisory Committee on Cruise Industry (ACCI) in January 2008, which is an advisory body to advise the Government on measures enhancing the development of Hong Kong as a regional cruise hub. Members of the Committee include key players in the cruise market, tourism industry, and the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
Manpower Supply
On manpower supply, in 2008, ACCI completed a questionnaire survey on identification of training needs for the cruise market in Hong Kong . We have created a database of cruise-related courses provided by tertiary and training institutes in Hong Kong for sharing with trade members and the public.
In 2009, ACCI, in collaboration with the Curriculum Development Institute of the Education Bureau, conducted two seminars on the development of cruise tourism in Hong Kong for teachers teaching the subject of Tourism and Hospitality Studies in secondary schools. The seminars aimed at promoting a better understanding on cruise tourism development in Hong Kong as well as the career prospect and job requirements of the cruise market.
Cruise Tourism Promotion
On promotion of cruise tourism, ACCI liaises closely with the cruise market and tourism industry on promoting cruise tourism and developing new itineraries. The Hong Kong Tourism Board provides support to ACCI to promote Hong Kong as a "must-see" cruise destination in the region.
Co-operation with Neighbouring Provinces and Cities
To enhance co-operation with neighbouring coastal provinces in developing cruise itineraries, the Tourism Commission has been working with four Mainland provinces, namely Fujian, Hainan, Guangdong and Guangxi to set up an information exchange platform, and together have stepped up joint promotion. The new "Cruise South China" website launched by Hong Kong Tourism Board in early January 2009 carries information on port facilities and tourism resources of Hong Kong and neighbouring provinces. |
