Carnival de Hospitalier Hong Kong
 
The Young Ambassador Union (YAU) organised a carnival with game stalls and stage performances on 28 July 2002 at the Victoria Park. Some of the Young Ambassadors had helped design and manage the game stalls and had gained enjoyable experience. The theme of the carnival is to promote Hong Kong tourism and the hospitable culture among Hong Kong residents.     photo

"The Music of the Dragons" Concert
 

With the theme of "Success in the Past Years and Looking Forward to the Future", young musicians from the Mainland, Macau, Taiwan and Hong Kong were invited to perform in this concert which was held on 2 July 2002 at the Hong Kong Coliseum.

To prepare for the concert, the Young Ambassadors attended the rehearsal sessions before the opening of the concert. One of the Young Ambassadors also served as volunteer to welcome and receive the performers when they stayed in Hong Kong. On 2 July, the Young Ambassadors were assigned to escort VIPs to their seats and assisted in the crowd control during the performance. They also assisted to distribute music instruments to the performers of the concert.

Prize Presentation Ceremony cum Launch Ceremony of the Exhibition of
the Winning Entries of the "Enjoy Hong Kong" Itinerary Design Competition
 
The ¡§Enjoy Hong Kong¡¨ Itinerary Design Competition was launched by the Tourism Commission in February 2002. Participants were requested to design a two-day itinerary for visitors travelling Hong Kong. The Award Ceremony was then held on 1 June at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. 7 Young Ambassadors were there to greet the visitors; to assist at the reception and the exhibition panels; and to offer logistics support.     photo

Cheung Chau Bun Festival
 
The Ceremony of the Bun Festival is held at Cheung Chau's Pak Tai Temple every year. It is a series of programmes to appease the gods that guard the island and to placate the hungry ghosts of pirates¡¦ victims roaming in the island in search of food. In the festival's procession, child performers dressed in costumes of ancient gods are suspended by rods and wires. The Ceremony of the Festival this year was held on 19 May 2002. It was fascinating and had attracted many visitors. The Young Ambassadors stationed in different areas to act as tourism hosts to greet and introduce the event and program rundown to the local, overseas and mainland visitors. They also assisted the organiser in crowd control and provided logistics support to the event.     photo

2002 Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Parade & Fiesta
 
2002 Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Parade & Fiesta, held on 12 February 2002, brought Hong Kong¡¦s harbourfront alive, entertaining more than 280,000 spectators along the Central and Wan Chai waterfront and millions more through live and delayed broadcasts around the world.



A total of 55 Young Ambassadors participated in the Parade, serving either as Parade Assistants, or ¡§Calgary Stampede¡¨ Assistant, or ambassadors to distribute souvenirs to guests.

CLP Hong Kong Lights Up - Switch On Ceremony
 
The three-month CLP Hong Kong Lights Up was the first major programme of the City of Life: Hong Kong is it! tourism campaign, organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board in cooperation with the Home Affairs Department, Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Tourism Commission, with the support the 18 District Councils.

A Switch On ceremony was held on 9 December 2001 to launch the programme. The first session of the ceremony was a condensed version of an exciting new musical fountain show entitled Aqua Fantasia at the Centenary Garden. The second session was a five-and-a-half-minute blaze of searchlight and pyrotechnics on Victoria Harbour.

Cyberport Topping Out Ceremony
 
In addition to the Innovation Expo, the Information Technology and Broadcasting Bureau had also invited the Young Ambassadors to carry out service for the Cyberport Topping Out Ceremony on 28 November 2001. The ceremony was held at the Cyberport at Telegraph Bay and was officiated by the Financial Secretary, the Hon Mr Anthony Leung, the Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, Mrs Carrie Yau, and Mr Richard Li, Chairman of PCCW. The other guests included Legco members, District Council members, consul-generals, senior government officials, CEOs of both local international IT companies as well as representatives of various companies providing services to the Cyberport.

Innovation Expo "Today's Technology, Tomorrow's World"
 
The Innovation Expo, held on 24 & 25 November 2001, was a technology exhibition organized by the Innovation and Technology Commission. The Information Technology and Broadcasting Bureau had set up a booth on ¡§the Cyberport¡¨, representing Hong Kong¡¦s IT flagship, to publicize the project.

12 Young Ambassadors were there to assist in briefing international and local visitors on the development and features of Cyberport.

Special Flag-raising Ceremony
 
On 1 July and 1 October each year (since 1997), spectacular flag-raising ceremonies are held at Golden Bauhinia Square to celebrate the establishment of the HKSAR and China¡¦s National Day. As part of the ¡§Recommendation of the Month: Wanchai¡¨ activities during the month of October, special flag-raising session will be held between 7:45am and 8:00am each Friday and on the first two Saturdays.

15 Young Ambassadors joined one of the sessions on 13 October 2001. They were there to greet and brief visitors the background and features of the Golden Bauhinia Square, the programme rundown of the ceremony, as well as to assist in the smooth running of the ceremony.
