Introduction
First launched by the Tourism Commission in 2001, the Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme (HKYAS) is one of the major components of a territory-wide public education campaign entitled "A Hospitable Hong Kong". The campaign aims at enhancing community awareness of the contribution of the tourism industry to Hong Kong and through such heightened awareness, promote a hospitable culture within the community.
The training programme of HKYAS 2001 ran from 21 July to 11 August.
Participants were required to attend a three-day-two-night camp, various
talks, workshops, visits to organizations and community services, etc.
The training programme aims at widening their knowledge on different facets
of Hong Kong including political and economic development, education,
culture and environmental protection, as well as developing their skills
on effective communication with overseas visitors. This year, a total
of 84 students from 42 local schools have been appointed as Hong Kong
Young Ambassadors.
